Malicious spam email about a fake antivirus product - SSO-AL2008-019

What is the problem?

A new email is circulating which is designed to infect your computer with a program that could allow an attacker to take control of your computer and use it for criminal purposes.

The email starts by saying that "Our antivirus detected a virus in your computer". It continues to recomend that you download a fake AntiVirus product called "ANTIVIRUS - Pro v1.1" or "Antivirus Pro 1.0.0.1".

The email contains a link which should not be opened.

What we recommend you do

If you receive an email similar to the above, do not visit the link in the email. Delete the email straight away.

If you have already clicked on the link, it is quite possible your computer may now be infected.  It is recommended you seek professional assistance in helping detect and remove the malware.

Make sure you have anti-virus software installed and keep it updated.
